making of beds goal....

A goal that Emma and I have set is to be better at making our beds in the morning. She said that if I make mine for 5 days, I would get THREE STARS!! Heavens to betsy, can't miss out on this great reward. :) Thank you for the great motivation dear Emma.

Thomas made his bed.
 Emma made hers
And Mommy made ours

These two got there hair cuts a couple days ago and I think part of the package deal was looking "grown up" all of a sudden; especially Miss Emma.

Look who turned 3

 April 12, 2013- Friday
Our Thomas boy woke up early his birthday morning excited to see balloons, number 3's all over, banners, birthday hats, and presents.

Emma was so sweet to him on his birthday. A couple days before his birthday, she wanted to buy him a special birthday gift with her own money. We went to hobby lobby and she picked a beanie baby dog named "Fetch".  She thought he would be the perfect friend for her cat named "Moonlight" (who is also a beanie baby).
Daddy made his yummy waffles for Thomas' birthday breakfast, Thomas opened presents, Emma and Thomas brought Moonlight and Fetch together, and he had lots of fun tossing and hitting balloons.
 He loves his "Fetch" doggy.
While Emma was at school and Daddy had to go to the office for a while, Thomas and I had some time to make his birthday cupcakes. A few days earlier, I asked Thomas what he would like for his birthday treat; he specifically said he wanted strawberry cupcakes. Strawberry cupcakes it was. We made them together and he couldn't keep his little hands out of the batter.
We surprised Thomas and took him to "Kangaroo Zoo"  He had some awesome climbing skills. He was a little nervous to enter the dragon mouth obstacle course so I showed him that there was nothing to be afraid. Actually I was pretending that the dragon was eating me, but if you look at Joseph's face, he seemed more frightened than Thomas :)

After Kangaroo Zoo, Thomas didn't want to go home. He wanted to keep having fun :) So we drove around and watched some construction equipment in action on some property. Then we drove down near Utah Lake and threw rocks into a stream. They would have stayed there all day if they could. Oh the simple pleasures of these children. Love them.
Thomas' best friend Gavin has Grandparents who have a farm just about a mile from our house. Thomas was invited once to play on the farm with his friend Gavin. He LOVED the pig "Kevin Bacon" and really wanted to pay a visit to him on his birthday. We went and saw the pig and fed him "Oatmeal Squares". Thomas laughed as the pig scarfed them. I think that was the highlight of his entire birthday. Across the street were lots of chickens that he fed weeds to :)

Trying to keep tradition by having the birthday child color or paint a masterpiece :) Thomas painted a lot of rainbows.
We went to one of Thomas' favorite restaurants, "Noodles and Company" for dinner.
Daddy and Emma set up a scavenger hunt to lead him to his gift...a strider bike.
That evening after the children got ready for bed, we sang "Happy Birthday" to Thomas, he blew out his candles, and ate some yummy strawberry cupcakes. Sweet boy! Fun day it was.

April 13, 2013- Saturday
Getting ready for the festivities and for friends to come over.

Here he is with his friends that came to his party....

Mia Scheuber and Emma Scott

Kayden Erickson and Seth Holmes
Abby and Evan Jenkins
Gavin Jones and of course his little brother Joseph and Daddy :)
Cupcake and ice cream time
Thomas' favorite sport lately has been bowling so we had to play a mickey mouse version of bowling.

Next came the bubble machine and also blowing their own bubbles. I think this was the biggest hit of the party. :)
Opening presents. So sweet of his friends.

April 14, 2013- Sunday
FAMILY PARTY

Getting ready to blow out his candles for the 3rd time in the last few days :) It never gets old.
Notice this little boy was wearing his batman pajamas/costume and his mickey mouse hat. Oh yeah!
Everyone singing "Happy Birthday" to Thomas and Uncle Dylan playing the song on his guitar. :)

Thomas' Aunt Britta and great Grandma Olsen chatting. We were so happy Grandma Olsen could be here to celebrate.

Thomas' cousin Annie, brother Joseph, Uncle Dylan and Thomas showing off his Spider Man mask he got.

Opening such nice gifts from family.

Talking to his favorite cousin Finn on Skype was the highlight of his day. Cousin Finn, Aunt Hilary and Uncle Dennen were able to sing and watch Thomas blow out his birthday candles. He misses Finn so much. He has been talking about him a lot lately. We've sent Finn pictures that the children have drawn for him. They are cute little pen pals.

Our sweet Thomas boy. It's wonderful to see you turn 3 years old. I love how your imagination is growing. You are so attentive and your vocabulary is getting better and better. You bring such joy to our family with your contagious laughs, and showing us your "Super Dupers" (whatever he wants to show us, he just calls them "Super Dupers"). I love your bashful smiles, I love your cheesy grins. Your little random sayings like, "I love my sister" or "It's grrrr..ific" (from Daniel Tigers neighborhood). I love your love for sign language and that you are always asking "what the sign is for ....something?" and you are amazing at remembering all the signs. I love that you ask me to hold your hand at bedtime and have me wait there with you while you relax. I love that you ask me for butterfly kisses and hearing your cute giggle while I give them to you and then you give them back. We love you SO much Thomas and are so grateful you were sent to our family.
Love, Mommy

Thomas' favorite color- blue
favorite movie- "Hey Mickey" (old school mickey mouse cartoons)

Sweet angel, Jon Gabriel Bowen

Jon Gabriel Bowen
May 3rd 2013 to May 8th 2013
My dear niece Maddie and her husband Jon had their baby boy at 30 weeks on May 3rd. It has been a very hard and rough road for this little family. Baby Jon was expected to have some complications once he was born full term, but didn't expect for him to come SO quickly that late Friday evening. He was able to hold on for about 4 days until his little body couldn't hold on any longer and laid to rest on Wednesday, May 8th
I don't feel like I have all the words to express how this whole experience has been for our family. I feel heart ache, but I also feel such peace and gratitude. Whenever I explain to people of what it's been like, I say how heart wrenching, yet beautiful the whole experience has been. Maddie and Jon's blog tell their story beautifully. They are amazing examples of such strength. I think only a parent who has to go through such a terrible trial is given such strength that no body can really understand. The Lord loves us so much. He allows His children to go through such heart ache to learn and gain experience, but He does carry us through.
I think of our sweet angel niece Rowan who passed away at 32 weeks last February. These two sweet babies were given their little bodies for such a short moment and have been called home very early, and we yearn the day that we can be with them again some day.
I continue learning during these life trials that I have a lot to learn. It humbles me and makes me want to be a better person. These little angels that come into our lives for such a small moment are an amazing strength to me and have taught me so much.
We love you Jon Gabriel. Thank you for coming into our lives. You are truly blessed to have such an amazing mother and father who love you more than anything in the whole world.

Till we meet again.
